Monday Break - Issue 171
Innovation on the product side. Reinvention on the business side. Here’s what’s driving sport forward this week.
Tokyo Marathon 2026 🇯🇵

We spent the past few days immersed in the Tokyo Marathon atmosphere — from a dinner and night run with the Bandit family to exploring brand activations and pop-ups across the city to truly feel the culture of a World Major.
Tokyo has a unique energy. Precise, respectful, beautifully organized — and during race week, it transforms into something even more special. The city comes alive in a different way. Great to reconnect with old friends and meet new ones along the way. The organization was impeccable, and the experience one we won’t forget.

Tokyo is incredible on its own — but with a marathon taking over the streets, it becomes something else entirely.
Sami Sauri - Fireflies Patagonia
Sami Sauri is taking on more than 1,000 kilometers across Patagonia as part of Fireflies Patagonia 2026 — a ride that goes far beyond endurance. Supporting the Vivir Más Feliz Foundation, the initiative raises funds and awareness for children facing cancer, turning every climb and every kilometer into a tribute to resilience and hope. A reminder that sometimes sport moves forward not just on legs, but on heart.
Gen Z’s latest status symbol is running a marathon
A new status symbol is emerging among Gen Z: buying experiences over possessions — particularly travel, events and shared moments. According to recent research, younger consumers are prioritising meaningful activities and social currency over material goods, reshaping how brands connect with this audience. This shift has implications across industries, from premium events and sponsorships to how products are marketed and valued in a more experience-driven economy.
